Season 2009 - Wrap Up
Sydney finished tenth last year with eight wins. Times they are changing for the Swans and it's probably
happened too fast for them to be competitive in the next couple of seasons. The two pronged attack that
has served them well over the years are gone, in Hall and O'Laughlin. Dependable defender and premiership
hero Leo Barry, uncompromising tagger Jared Crouch, Nick Fosdike and Amon Buchanan ar also gone. But the trade of
Darren Jolly leaves a huge hole at ruck that caused them to overpay for Shane Mumford from Geelong. However,
along with ex-Eagle Mark Seaby, the return of Tadhg Kennelly and two first round picks, the Swans need to be down
for long.

Under The Gun
Two years ago, Nick Malceski was lauded for his attacking role in the Swans defence and has completed a season where
he played every game and averaged over 100 points in SC. That was before a knee injury that saw him undergo radical surgery
and get back to playing faster than anyone has ever come back from the type of ligament damage he sustained in 2008. Fast forward
two seasons and he has managed only 21 games in total and averaged 55 (DT) and 51 (SC), whilst being bandled around the trade tables this
offseason. The jury is out on replacing knee parts with synthetic materials, and it's also out on whether Malceski can recapture the
form had him in the majority of fantasy owners sights.
Burning Question: Is Mumford a number one ruckman?
This question won't be answered until atleast mid-next year, but when a team loses
a player like Darren Jolly, there is a burning question whether he can be replaced by a
player whom the Swans paid a hefty price for. At one million dollars over the next four years,
Mumford comes with an expectation to carry the ruck work no matter what those inside the club say
about having the ruck work shared with Seaby.
Some fantasy football stats for Shane Mumford:
Averages DT (55) SC (53)
High DT (88) SC (84)
Low DT (30) SC (25)
90+ Points DT (0/18) SC (0/18)
Sub-70 Points DT (13/18) SC (13/18)
